Interview with Justin Lathrop on How High Capacity Individuals Can Become High Capacity Leaders

Everyone has potential but not everyone uses their potential. What is the difference between those who can and those who do? You need more than potential to make an impact. You need action. You need movement. To make a difference we must move from being high capacity individuals to high capacity leaders. But how do we get there? Let’s talk about it.

2 Things From This Episode

1. Have Purpose

A high capacity person becomes a high capacity leader when they find purpose. If a high capacity individual isn’t leading, then they haven’t found their purpose. Leaders don’t follow high capacity individuals, they follow high capacity leaders with purpose and vision. Your purpose has to be what makes you move every single day. Finding your purpose starts with connecting to Jesus and to those around you. The leaders around you can call out the gifts and talents that are within you. Every leader needs to go on the journey and find out what their purpose is.

2. Organization

I use to look at organization as what your assistant does. Leaders often think administration is the lowest level of leadership but we call the highest office in the United States “The Administration.” Any leader wanting to move from being a high capacity individual to a high capacity leader has to take organization seriously. Books like Getting Things Done by David Allen and Making Ideas Happen by Scott Belsky are critical for organizational growth.

3. Communication

Communication for leaders isn’t always the large group talks but also the one on ones. The art of communication is a key aspect of moving from being a high capacity individual to a high capacity leader. Leaders must master how to communicate clearly, how to communicate for action both verbal and written. Excellent communication defuses issues instead of blowing them up.

The small problem you don’t deal with today becomes 10 problems tomorrow. Leaders need to be peacemakers not just peacekeepers.
