John Brown is the Vice President of Sales & Marketing at a national organization. He manages all marketing and sales activities, including expanding marketplace awareness and new customer development. His career began in the U.S. Marine Corps where also served in Iraq.

1. Some Humility Required 

If you’re in business or leading for any amount of time you’re going to experience failure. You can only hope those failures are small enough not to destroy you but big enough to learn from. If you’re not humble enough to go back and look at the role you played in the failure then you refuse to grow. As the leader you must be ok saying; “I need help” or “It’s not working.”  Leaders must be willing to  stop, adjust and move on the fly if they’re going to be successful.

2. The Other Side 

The other side of failure should be growth but you will never reach that growth if you’re afraid to fail. If you’re not willing to risk failure, you won’t fail – but you also won’t be great. Failing once is one thing, allowing that failure to recreate a domino effect of future failures is another.
